Nova Scotia Youth Civic Literacy Report

About the Report

Springtide conducted a survey to learn more about civic literacy among young voting-aged adults in Nova Scotia. Civic literacy is one of the strongest predictors of whether someone engages in politics.  We developed a ten-question civic literacy test and presented it to 95 Nova Scotians aged 18-30 who were eligible to vote in the 2013 provincial election. The survey was administered in August 2013. Questions for the test were developed to assess the knowledge necessary to participate in the most basic elements of the Canadian political process, namely elections, political parties, and political institutions.

My role

I convened the project, developed the questions for the survey, and served as lead author for the final report.
