About the case

The Charter Challenge for Fair Voting (Fair Voting BC and Springtide v Attorney General of Canadais a court case seeking a ruling that first-past-the-post violates the right each Canadian has to effective representation and equal treatment before the law.

My Role

From 2017 – 2020, I managed the fundraising campaign for the case, negotiation of collaboration agreements with project partners, the administration of project finances, internal communication with donors, external communication with the media, and oversight of the lawyer’s work.

Case Status

The case and supporting evidence have been filed in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice with the support of 1000+ donors from across Canada. A trial date for the initial hearing has been set for September 25th, 2023. Updates on the case, court filings and supporting evidence are available on the project website. Once a judgment is rendered by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, an appeal court will then rehear the case, followed by a final judgment from the Supreme Court of Canada.
